Tesla Reportedly Cutting Production In China In January — Not Clear Why

Tesla Inc. plans to run a reduced production schedule at its Shanghai plant in January 2027, producing for 17 days from Jan. 3 to Jan. 19 and halting electric vehicle output from Jan. 20 to Jan. 31 for an extended Chinese New Year break, according to an internal schedule reviewed by Reuters. The move extends reduced output begun in December 2026 and comes as Tesla's China sales fell 9% in the first half of the year, though the company has not explained the reason for the extended shutdown.
