Qantas has opened a new Product Innovation Center in Adelaide, South Australia, bringing together the airline’s technology product development teams under one roof as it accelerates the in-house development of digital tools and AI-driven customer experiences.
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas joined Qantas Group Chief Technology, AI and Transformation Officer Rachel Yangoyan at the official opening of the purpose-built center, located in the Adelaide CBD.
Building digital capability in-house
The center will serve as the home of Qantas’ product managers, digital experience designers, software engineers, and data and AI specialists, all working to transform how customers interact with the airline across their entire journey.
A pilot team was established in a temporary space in March 2026 ahead of the move into the new center. Since then, the team has been developing real-time customer feedback tools and new digital experiences using AI built with Qantas’ own data, allowing the airline to test, prototype, and resolve customer issues more quickly.
The first 50 employees have already begun working from the new offices, with Qantas currently recruiting for an additional 40 roles. The airline expects to grow the center to more than 400 digital and technology positions over the next three years, supported by the South Australian Government.
Adelaide as a tech hub
Yangoyan said South Australia was the right fit for the airline’s long-term technology ambitions, citing the city’s university network, growing technology community, and the ability to scale in-house capability.
“This Centre is central to that. It’s already helping us tap into some of the best talent in the country to build more personalized travel experiences for the millions of customers who fly with us every year,” she said.
Premier Malinauskas said the decision to open Qantas’ first Product Innovation Centre outside Sydney was a significant endorsement of South Australia.
“This Center will create more than 400 highly-skilled digital jobs. This brings new opportunities for South Australians and helps attract some of the best and brightest from interstate to SA,” he said.
A pipeline for the next generation
Qantas is also partnering with Adelaide University to create graduate recruitment pathways directly into the center, giving South Australian students a route into technology careers with one of Australia’s most recognized companies. Hundreds of applications were received for the first intake, with graduates set to begin in February 2027.
Malinauskas said the graduate pathway would give the next generation of South Australian talent direct access to some of Australia’s most exciting technology careers.
