Jeppesen ForeFlight introduces AI tools to help airlines manage flight disruptions

Jeppesen ForeFlight announced on October 6, 2026 the first three AI tools for its Airflow platform, aimed at helping airlines recover faster from flight disruptions and build crew schedules, with a broader rollout planned for early 2027. The disruption management tool, Augmented Ops Control, evaluates and ranks recovery options and explains its recommendations so human operations controllers remain accountable for decisions, while Trip Trading simplifies crew trip exchanges and Target Mastery translates planner goals such as lower costs or better reserve coverage into schedules that account for crew fatigue. Jeppesen ForeFlight, which introduced the Airflow strategy in July 2026, is recruiting airline partners to develop the technology and did not name participating airlines or provide operational trial results.

Jeppesen ForeFlight has unveiled artificial intelligence tools designed to help airlines recover more quickly from flight disruptions, build crew schedules and make it easier for pilots and cabin crew to swap assignments.

The company announced the first three tools for its Airflow platform on October 6, 2026, and showcased them at its annual commercial aviation users conference. It is recruiting airline partners to help develop the technology ahead of a broader rollout planned for early 2027.

The disruption management tool, called Augmented Ops Control, is designed to help airline operations controllers assess their choices when flights do not go as planned. Jeppesen ForeFlight said the software evaluates and ranks options to smooth disruptions, and even explains its recommendations so human employees can decide what to do next.

The company wants to speed the process so airlines can act while less costly options are still available.

“Every recovery option, weighed and recommended in seconds, with the reasoning attached for trusted decision-making,” Jeppesen ForeFlight CEO Brad Surak said. “That is what operators have told us they need most.”

The other two tools address crew scheduling, from building rosters to handling requests from employees who want to exchange trips.

Jeppesen ForeFlight said its Trip Trading tool can simplify the process and help airlines reduce unplanned absences and the extra pay needed to cover assignments when a trade cannot be arranged.

The third tool, Target Mastery, allows crew planners to specify what they want a schedule to achieve. Those goals can include lower costs, better reserve coverage or more time between connecting flights, while also accounting for crew fatigue.

According to the company, the software translates those objectives into a plan, reducing the need for planners to repeatedly adjust settings to get the result they want.

Jeppesen ForeFlight introduced its Airflow strategy in July 2026. The platform combines aviation data with an operator’s own rules and requirements, allowing airlines to use Jeppesen ForeFlight’s AI tools, products from other suppliers or tools they build themselves.

Airlines that choose to use the new AI tools will choose how much to automate, with people remaining accountable for decisions.

Jeppesen ForeFlight provides flight planning, navigation and operations software and data for airlines, business aircraft operators, military users and general aviation pilots.

The company did not name participating airlines or provide results from operational trials in the announcement. It said additional tools for business and military aviation would follow.
