Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said artificial intelligence has changed the memory industry’s traditional boom-and-bust pattern by creating sustained demand for high-bandwidth memory and other data-center products. “The value of memory, that equation has totally changed,” Mehrotra said in a CNBC interview on August 20. Micron’s own forecast supports the bullish demand case. The company expects fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $50 billion, plus or minus $1 billion, and an approximately 86% gross margin. Prices remain supported by HBM demand #
The pricing pressure extends beyond HBM. TrendForce expects mobile DRAM contract prices to rise 8% to 13% quarter over quarter in the third quarter of 2026, although it says negotiations have become less urgent as some buyers rebuild inventories. Suppliers’ shift toward server and HBM applications is expected to support prices into the fourth quarter. [2]
Competitor results point in the same direction. SK hynix said HBM pricing exceeded consensus by 6.1% in its second quarter, while management maintained a constructive view of AI-memory demand and lifted 2026 capital-spending guidance to the high-40-trillion-Korean-won range.
