Krafton makes socially intelligent AI that understands people

Krafton subsidiary Ludo Robotics unveiled Ludi 0.2, a new version of its robotic intelligence system that adds social intelligence, letting robots read social cues and interpret human intent, the company announced at the Bay Area Robotics Symposium at UC Berkeley. Ludi 0.2 also adds memory and reasoning, tool coordination, gesture interpretation and smoother physical movement, built on Krafton's foundational AI models and Co-Playable Characters developed for games including PUBG: Battlegrounds. Krafton CEO CH Kim said, "Through Ludo Robotics, we're building on that experience to explore how AI can better understand people and interact with them naturally in the physical world.

Krafton today announced that its subsidiary, Ludo Robotics, had created a new version of its robotic intelligence system. Called Ludi 0.2, this intelligence system features several new capabilities, including social intelligence. According to Krafton, this means that robots running Ludi 0.2 will be able to read social cues and understand human intent.

Ludo built this intelligence on the basis of Krafton’s work on AI foundational models and AI-driven teammates called Co-Playable Characters for its games, including PUBG: Battlegrounds. It brings the intelligence from games to real-world robotics. Ludo presented Ludi 0.2 today to the Bay Area Robotics Symposium at UC Berkeley.

Ludi 0.2’s capabilities include (according to Ludo):

  • Social Intelligence: Improving how the system interprets human intent, responds to feedback and accounts for social cues during interactions.
  • Memory and Reasoning: Advancing the system’s ability to maintain context and reason through changing tasks and situations.
  • Tool Coordination: Supporting more coordinated use of capabilities involved in navigation, manipulation and interaction.
  • Gesture Interpretation: Improving the system’s ability to recognize and respond to human gestures as part of physical interaction.
  • Physical Movement: Advancing smoother, more adaptable movement in supported environments.

CH Kim, CEO of Krafton, said in a statement, “For nearly two decades, KRAFTON has built games and virtual worlds where people and intelligent systems interact in real time. Through Ludo Robotics, we’re building on that experience to explore how AI can better understand people and interact with them naturally in the physical world.”
