Trinity Audioplayer ready...A registered sex offender released from jail in one Marin County case was quickly arrested in another, authorities said.
Robiel Teklu Sium, 29, was booked in the Marin County Jail on early Thursday on suspicion of sexual battery and false imprisonment. Tiburon police allege he approached a woman Wednesday night on a path near Tiburon Linear Park, grabbed her breasts and forced her into the bushes.
The victim resisted and fled, police Sgt. Rob Law said. The victim gave police a description of the attacker, and officers arrested Sium in the patio area of Woodlands Market, Law said.
Five hours before that incident, Sium had been released from jail in a San Rafael case. On June 18, he was booked on suspicion of assault to commit rape after trespassing at a fitness studio on Grand Avenue, police said. He also was booked on a parole hold linked to a prison term for a 2023 sexual battery conviction in Marin.
The jail let him out Wednesday because the San Rafael case is still under review by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.
Sium has since been charged with felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor sexual battery in connection with the Tiburon incident. An arraignment was set for Friday.
