Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is set to attend a state dinner hosted by President Donald Trump for Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a source familiar with the matter on Tuesday.
Trump is scheduled to meet with Xi in Washington on September 24.
Huang's attendance at the high-profile gathering comes amid growing public anxiety surrounding the potential risks posed by artificial intelligence. Nvidia manufactures essential chips for AI developers, placing the firm at the center of international discussions on the technology.
The U.S. and China represent the two primary global forces driving the development and international adoption of advanced AI tools.
State dinners are among the highest diplomatic honors a U.S. president can bestow upon a foreign leader, usually reserved for heads of allied nations. Hosting such an event for Xi is noteworthy, as Trump frequently characterizes China as a rival nation.
When Trump visited China in May, Xi hosted a state dinner for him that Huang also attended, along with SpaceX CEO and former Trump adviser Elon Musk and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Trump has hosted one state dinner since his second term began, held for Britain's King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Trump's press team did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding Huang's inclusion on the dinner guest list.
