Whop releases command-line interface to let business owners and their AI agents access digital commerce
Whop Inc., an e-commerce platform with a social marketplace that allows businesses to monetize digital products and services, today announced a new command-line interface that allows developers and artificial intelligence agents quick access to its capabilities.
Launched in 2021, Whop provides e-commerce capabilities alongside a payments infrastructure layer. The platform delivers both turnkey storefronts for sellers who want an out-of-the-box presence and embeddable experiences via a software development kit and application programming interface, so they can build it into their own apps.
The company’s API allows developers to plug Whop’s capabilities into their apps, for example, building payment flows, managing users running ads and more.
“Businesses use Whop to help them grow faster, and the fact that many of them don’t have a dedicated engineering team to scale and build has been a major roadblock,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Steven Schwartz.
Building these experiences into an app and accessing an API meant requiring a level of technical or coding expertise. With the release of the CLI today, users can run simple commands that business owners and AI agent tools can understand. Now, business owners can hook in and get a live product running with a checkout link simply by chatting with their favorite AI agent.
A CLI is a method for accessing and managing software from the terminal. To the everyday user, this differs from the graphical user interface, which includes double-clicking and drag-and-drop, in that it is where users access the operating system and tools using text. Users and developers type specific commands, hit enter, and the computer responds in text as it takes actions.
Business users can now run wide swaths of their ecommerce operations through the command line. This includes launching products, spinning up ad campaigns, checking sales stats, managing subscriptions and moving money.
“Whop CLI [connects] businesses with our end-to-end API,” said Schwartz. “Whether you’re a developer or someone who’s never written a line of code in your life, you now have the same access to the full power of Whop.”
Not only can users access this text interface, but now AI agents can easily control business operations. Agents can quickly and easily set up business operations and patterns in moments, without requiring users to type a line of code.
Access to this command-line interface is part of an evolution for Whop as the company continues to build out access to the platform’s infrastructure. This builds on the company’s recent release of Whop Cards and an ad platform.
Cards includes physical and digital payment cards that act as credit cards and can be stored as virtual Visa cards within the platform and in digital wallets such as Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The company’s ad platform gives businesses access to a single place to bid on, control and distribute advertisements through ad platforms, starting with Meta Platform Inc.’s ad platform.
