At DAC, The Chips to Systems Conference in Long Beach, California, last week, two-year old startup ChipAgents announced it had closed an extended series A round, adding $60 million to the $50 million it had raised in February 2026 and bringing its total funding to $134 million.
The news reflects renewed investor confidence in EDA startups. As ChipAgents founder and CEO William Wang told EE Times in a video interview at DAC, the conference is experiencing a huge renaissance of startups in the sector. Examples include Ricursive, with $335 million in funding to date; Normal Computing, with $85 million to date; Cognichip, with $93 million to date; Vinci, with its $46 million so far; Hiveware, with $28 million to date; Agentrys, with $25 million; and Architect Labs, with a $24 million seed round announced last month.
Wang also told EE Times how the company plans to use the funding, including scaling models, expanding global support, strengthening R&D, building on its market traction, and positioning itself within the wider EDA ecosystem.

View All This is just a snapshot of some of the deals announced by new EDA companies at the annual conference, but it shows that venture firms are investing heavily in domain-specific AI startups serving specialized, high-margin industries.
Wang said increased investment across reasoning models, AI harnesses, and EDA tools encourages healthy innovation across the entire ecosystem. And rather than compete with legacy EDA software, companies such as ChipAgents act as an accelerator. “The data we are seeing is that every dollar our customer spends on ChipAgents, there’s another two dollars [spent] on the EDA tools involved by our agent, and then there’s another two dollars on the storage and database,” he said.
The company provides domain-specific AI agents for semiconductor design workflows that have historically relied on manual engineering. Unlike AI copilots that assist engineers with individual coding tasks, ChipAgents said its specialized agents can independently plan and execute complex design and verification workflows, compressing engineering tasks that once required weeks or months into days or hours.
In the company’s official news announcement, Wang said, “We’re enabling the industry to move beyond AI assistants toward autonomous agents that can execute meaningful engineering work. Our customer growth shows that semiconductor companies are ready for that shift, and this financing allows us to bring that capability to even more engineering teams.”
ChipAgents said it had a strong first half of 2026, reporting sixfold growth in annual recurring revenue and more than 120 deployments at semiconductor companies. The company also said this represents one of the industry’s largest commercial deployments of agentic AI for chip design and verification.
As the figures above show, companies such as ChipAgents and other emerging EDA startups provide the ‘agentic’ harnesses that plug directly into existing engines via appropriate APIs. Big EDA vendors own the underlying physics engines, solvers, and signoff tools built over several decades.
