Stripe bets on AI agents as economic participants, not just cost-cutters

Stripe unveiled 288 new products at Stripe Sessions 2026, including Link wallets for AI agents and stablecoin-powered streaming payments, positioning AI agents as economic participants rather than cost-cutting tools. Will Gaybrick unveils 288 new products at Stripe Sessions 2026, including agent wallets and stablecoin-powered streaming payments

Most companies talk about using AI to trim headcount or automate spreadsheets. Stripe is taking a different approach: building infrastructure so AI agents can actually spend money.

At Stripe Sessions 2026, held in late April, the company’s President of Product and Business, Will Gaybrick, unveiled 288 new products designed to treat AI agents not as back-office tools but as active participants in commerce.

Wallets for robots, payments for machines #

The centerpiece of the announcement is Link wallets for AI agents. These wallets allow agents to make purchases using one-time-use card authorizations, meaning the full payment credentials are never exposed to the merchant or the agent itself.

Gaybrick framed the gap bluntly: “If AI can solve Nobel level physics problems but can’t buy a domain, something’s gone wrong.”

The product lineup also includes partnerships with Google’s Gemini, building on existing integrations with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta. These collaborations let businesses accept payments directly inside AI-powered applications, rather than routing users out to a browser or traditional checkout flow.

Streaming payments and stablecoin micropayments #

Stripe’s new streaming payments model enables real-time billing that tracks usage as it happens. The mechanism relies on stablecoin micropayments running on the Tempo blockchain, allowing per-token billing that settles continuously rather than in batch.

Stripe currently processes around 4.8 million business-to-business payments daily, a figure that now gets augmented by instant transfer capabilities through Stripe Treasury.

From cost center to growth engine #

Gaybrick made a point of distinguishing Stripe’s approach from the typical AI playbook in corporate America. The company isn’t deploying AI primarily to reduce costs. It’s building products that use AI and serve AI, treating the technology as a revenue driver rather than an expense reduction tool.

Stripe is also bolstering its fraud protection infrastructure through enhanced Radar tools specifically calibrated for agent-led transactions. A new initiative called Stripe Projects aims to support the operational side of agent-led commerce.
