Sony has further addressed ongoing discussions about its platform strategy, and the company has made one thing clear: live-service PlayStation games will continue launching on both PS5 and PC. In other words, multiplayer games are safe from the cull. There’s no doubt that Sony has been rethinking how it releases its first-party titles outside the PlayStation ecosystem.
While PlayStation spent the past several years bringing many of its biggest games to PC, reports indicated that the company was preparing to shift its approach, particularly for single-player experiences. Now, PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino has shared new comments that shed light on Sony’s plans moving forward.

Speaking in a recent interview with Famitsu, Nishino explained that Sony evaluates each game individually when deciding which platforms it should release on. However, he also emphasized that the company sees live-service titles differently from its single-player projects.

“Our current main policy is that, for single-player games developed in-house, we will further refine the value of the gaming experience that PlayStation can offer. At the same time, we believe it is important for live-service games to reach a wider audience through online multiplayer, so we continue to view releases on both PS5 and PC as the standard.”

According to Nishino, online multiplayer games benefit from reaching the largest possible audience. Because of that, Sony still considers PS5 and PC to be the standard platforms for its live-service releases. The goal is to bring these games to as many players as possible while supporting large online communities.
At the same time, Sony appears to be placing greater emphasis on PlayStation exclusivity for its internally developed single-player games. Nishino stated that the company wants to further strengthen the unique gaming experiences available through PlayStation hardware.

Marvel’s Wolverine is a single-player Sony game that will be exclusive to PS5 – launching September 15, 2026
His comments line up with recent reports claiming that Sony plans to keep future first-party narrative-driven games exclusive to PlayStation consoles. While Sony has not formally announced such a policy, industry reports have suggested that the company believes its biggest story-focused franchises help strengthen the PlayStation brand and encourage players to stay within its ecosystem.
The move would represent a notable shift from Sony’s previous strategy. Over the last several years, PlayStation has brought titles such as Horizon, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and God of War to PC, often after an extended period of console exclusivity. The company even acquired PC port specialist Nixxes Software to support those efforts.
