Sonos has unveiled Sonos 27, the newest version of its audio operating system, with AI-driven controls, a refreshed app and improved connectivity between its speakers and headphones. Alongside the software update, the company has introduced the Beam Ultra soundbar and Ace Ultra headphones globally. Sonos has also confirmed that its Play portable speaker will launch in India on September 8.
Sonos 27 Adds AI-Powered Controls #
Sonos 27 brings AI deeper into the company’s audio ecosystem, allowing users to control their Sonos devices through the built-in Sonos 27 voice assistant. The platform also supports authorised third-party AI agents, including ChatGPT, through Sonos 27 mcp. This could let users ask an AI assistant to manage music playback across different rooms without switching between apps. Sonos is also working on Custom Agents, which will let users build personalised AI agents with their choice of model, personality and voice.

Sonos Speakers Get Smarter With Sonos Fabric #
The company is introducing Sonos Fabric to make interactions between compatible devices more seamless. The system enables speakers to recognise one another and automatically adjust their functions based on their placement. For example, supported portable speakers can switch into rear surround roles when they are moved into the appropriate position, reducing the need for manual setup.
Sonos Play Launches in India #
Sonos Play will arrive in India on September 8 at a price of Rs 35,999. The portable speaker can connect to a Sonos setup over Wi-Fi and offers up to 24 hours of battery life. It also features an IP67-rated design, a built-in power bank and a replaceable battery. Users can now group multiple Sonos Play speakers over Bluetooth when listening away from home. The speaker also supports Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, voice services and the Sonos app.
Beam Ultra and Ace Ultra Debut Globally #
Alongside Sonos Play, the company has unveiled the Beam Ultra soundbar and Ace Ultra headphones globally. Beam Ultra features 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos, AI Speech Enhancement, Night Sound and Trueplay tuning. The Ace Ultra headphones come with spatial audio, Active Noise Cancellation and 10 microphones for adaptive noise control. They provide up to 35 hours of playback with ANC turned on, while a three-minute quick charge can deliver up to three hours of listening.
