Show HN: Yurei – like Claude in Chrome, but for any model and harness

Yurei, a new open-source Chrome extension, lets any AI coding tool control a real browser via MCP, supporting models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others. The tool, launched on the Chrome Web Store and GitHub under an MIT license, connects AI assistants like Cursor and Windsurf to browser tasks such as summarizing tabs or checking inboxes, with no server or account required.

Yurei gives any AI coding tool a real browser. Works with every major agent and anything else that speaks MCP.

Two steps

Summon it. #

Add Yurei to Chrome. One click in the Chrome Web Store. Nothing to configure in the extension.

Run this in a terminal. It connects to the extension, finds your AI tools and asks which ones to connect. npx yurei-chrome setup

Restart your AI tool. That's it, the ghost is in. Needs Node.js 18 or newer. Takes about a minute. Run it again any time to add another tool.

Then

Just ask. #

Talk to your AI like you always do. When a task needs a browser, it reaches for Yurei.

  • Open my news tab and summarise the five biggest stories.
  • In my inbox, find the unread message from the bank and tell me the amount.
  • Log in to staging as the test user and check the checkout page.

Say “in my browser” when you want to be explicit.

Compatible

Any tool. Any model. #

  • opencode
  • pi
  • Cursor
  • Windsurf
  • Codex CLI
  • any MCP client

Models that see images take screenshots when they need them. Text-only models read the page as text.

How it works

A ghost has no body. #

No server.

Your AI tool talks to the extension over a local socket, using Chrome's own debugging protocol.

No account, no open port.

Nothing leaves your computer except what your AI tool already sends to its model.

No secrets.

MIT licensed and on GitHub.

  • yurei doctor
  • is Chrome connected?
  • yurei setup
  • add a tool, or repair the install
  • yurei config <tool>
  • config for any other MCP client
