Show HN: See how long it takes ChatGPT Sol 5.6 to send a byte across the LAN

A developer reports that ChatGPT 5.6 Sol on Max setting has failed to send a single byte across a local gigabit LAN after 1 hour 32 minutes, following previous failed attempts with Claude and Sol that took 5 days and 2 days respectively. The developer is publicly tracking the progress on a live webpage, having spent 20.7 hours and written 62 emails (20,813 words) on the Claude attempt, which consumed 2,758,521,167 input tokens and 7,930,482 output tokens across 9,135 API calls.

The problem: I noticed that any VNC client I tried wasn't able to reliably send keystrokes (about a byte on average) on my local wired LAN between a Mac Mini and a Windows desktop, both connected with gigabit ethernet cables to the same router.

Keystrokes would constantly drop out. So I asked ChatGPT 5.6 Sol on Max setting to build a solution that is able to send keystrokes without dropping them.

It's building it right now.

Here you can see how long it takes until it is able to send 1 byte across the local network given gigabit LAN:

https://robss2020.github.io/sol-vnc-elapsed/ This is updated in realtime with a screenshot every 15 minutes of whatever the fuck it thinks it's doing on this grade school afternoon assignment.

This is a work in progress. So far the previous time to 0 bytes was 5 days for Claude (I then killed the project and tried with Sol) and about 2 days time to 0 bytes for Sol before I had to delete that attempt.

This time I'm building this in public so we can all see how long it takes it to get 1 byte across a connected ethernet LAN line without dropping it.

Here are the statistics from Claude's build:

hours_personal_time_testing (62 sessions x 10 min): 10.3 hours_personal_time_emails (62 emails, test+think+write+read): 10.3 hours_personal_time_total_estimate: 20.7 emails_you_wrote_on_this_subject: 62 words_you_wrote_excluding_quoted_history: 20813 average_words_per_email: 335 claude_input_tokens_total_incl_cache: 2758521167 claude_output_tokens_total: 7930482 claude_api_calls: 9135

At that point I had to delete the project. Now let's see if Sol can do any better!

So far it's been 1 hour 32 minutes and counting...

I'll keep updating this for the next two or three months and tens of billions of tokens until it's done! I mean is writing a byte across the network really an O(n^n^n) operation? (8^8 is only 16,777,216 so it's gotta be at least n^n^n.). Big if true!
