Designed by Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, Samsung’s smart glasses run on Android XR

Meta’s smart glasses have been an absolute smash hit for the tech giant, with the company continuing to capitalise on their success by pumping out model after model – the latest being a pair designed by Kylie Jenner.

But Meta may soon have some competition. After making an appearance at Google I/O earlier this year, Samsung's AI smart glasses, developed in partnership with Google, are expected to launch this autumn. Designed by Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, they'll run Android XR and feature dual front-facing cameras.

While these aren't the rumoured augmented reality glasses, which could eventually feature a micro-LED display built into the lenses, Samsung and Google's first smart glasses could give Meta's Ray-Ban glasses a run for their money. Here's everything we know so far. **Read more: ****Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses review **

Samsung Galaxy smart glasses: Release date #

While Samsung hasn't confirmed an exact launch date, the tech giant has officially announced its smart glasses will arrive in autumn 2026. I’m expecting the company to show off the smart glasses at Galaxy Unpacked next week, with pre-orders going live soon after.

Samsung Galaxy smart glasses: Price #

Again, we don’t have any details on price just yet, but if they're going to compete with Ray-Ban Meta’s smart glasses, I’d expect them to cost somewhere between £350 and £450.

The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses start at £379, while the Oakley Meta smart glasses start from £499.

Last month, Meta also launched its own Meta-designed pair of smart glasses which cost £299. That’s a lot less than the pair designed by Ray-Ban and Oakley. Given Samsung’s frames are designed by Warby Parker and Gentle Monster – two designer brands – I don’t think they’ll be that cheap.

Samsung smart glasses: Design and features #

The Samsung smart glasses will launch with two frame styles. The Gentle Monster version has a rounded, fashion-forward design with tinted lenses, while the Warby Parker model boasts a classic black frame with clear lenses.

Powered by Android XR, Google and Samsung have confirmed they'll include built-in microphones, speakers and cameras, letting you activate Gemini by saying "Hey Google" or tapping the side of the frame.

Like with the Meta glasses, you'll be able to ask questions about what you're looking at, receive turn-by-turn directions, send texts, make calls, translate speech and signs in real time and control compatible apps using just your voice.

According to a report from Android Headlines, the glasses will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 chipset, feature a 155mAh battery and weigh around 50g. Google has already confirmed the glasses will be able to pair with both Android and iPhone.

In official imagery, you can see two forward-facing cameras, positioned at the front of each arm near the hinges. Samsung hasn't revealed the camera specifications, but Android Headlines has claimed the glasses will feature a 12MP Sony IMX681 camera.
