Grand Theft Auto V releases have spanned three generations of consoles. It was originally released to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 before making it to the PS4 and Xbox One the following year. Current-gen versions for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S arrived in 2022, and for anyone who hasn’t bought the most recent version, you can now upgrade your copy for free.
This upgrade program comes in time for a new heist – The Kortz Center Heist – coming to GTA Online “in the coming weeks,” according to Rockstar Games in an official blog post. Rockstar says the free upgrades will allow players to “experience the best versions of GTA V and GTA Online”. It’s worth noting that last-gen players can migrate their story and online progress.

Of course, this offer doesn’t affect PC players, and they also have access to PC-exclusive features. A free upgrade for the game came in the form of ‘GTA V Enhanced’ last year, which is now the default version on PC storefronts such as Steam. The enhanced version adds ray tracing support, FSR and DLSS settings, higher resolutions, and more.
The offer comes months ahead of the GTA 6 release date, which seems pretty set in stone for November 19. The game will be launching on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S – there is still no official date for the PC port.
