France’s state-owned computing company Bull has won a contract with the European Union to build its next supercomputer, the €388 million ($450 million) LUMI-AI system in Finland.
The company will build the system for the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and LUMI AI Factory consortium after a 15-month bidding process, marking its largest project since it was bought from the struggling Atos Group.
EuroHPC Executive Director Anders Jensen said the deal was the organisation’s sixth AI Factory contract: “Together, these systems will form a powerful European AI infrastructure ecosystem, enabling SMEs and startups to access world-class supercomputing resources.”
LUMI-AI will be built at a data centre owned by the CSC - IT Centre for Science in Kajaani, Finland, and hosted by the consortium, made up of Finland, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Norway and Poland.
