Pickcode Product Roadmap 2026-2027

Pickcode published its 2026-2027 product roadmap, outlining three development themes for its online IDE for middle and high school computer science teachers: student monitoring and feedback, performance and reliability, and streamlined user experience. The student monitoring theme includes a detailed student activity log covering code runs, copy-paste events, and automated test results, which Pickcode says has become especially important with increased student usage of AI tools. The roadmap items are tentatively planned as of September 2026 and are subject to change, with improvements announced in monthly newsletters.

Our vision for Pickcode is to build the best online IDE for middle and high school computer science teachers.

For the 2026-2027 school year, we will be implementing features and improvements along these three themes:

  • Student monitoring and feedback
  • Performance and reliability
  • Streamlined user experience

We're working on these themes in particular based on analysis of user feedback and to further our vision.

Items on this roadmap are tentatively planned as of September 2026 and are subject to change.

Student monitoring and feedback #

Many teachers tell us that the main benefit of Pickcode is visibility into how students are completing assignments. This has become especially important with increased student usage of AI tools.

  • Add more advanced settings for due dates, locking assignments, and group projects.
  • Provide teachers with a detailed student "activity log", including code runs, copy-paste events, and automated test results (if those are configured for the assignment).
  • Enable a commenting system for teachers to provide feedback without editing student code.

Performance and reliability #

Faster times and fewer errors give teachers more time for classroom instruction and students more time to complete their work.

  • Make running code faster and less likely to fail, especially during periods of peak traffic.
  • Improve the speed of navigating between pages and projects.
  • Improve automated monitoring to allow Pickcode's engineering team to detect issues prior to user support requests.

Streamlined user experience #

We've added many features to Pickcode since launch, and this year we want to make them work together more seamlessly.

  • Automatically detect the user's project type (Console vs. Graphics) when running code.
  • Provide more detailed and actionable error messages for common issues (an item isn't shared, unsupported file types, etc.).
  • Enhance organization and collaboration features for projects and lessons, including folder management and access to shared items.

Providing feedback #

If you have feedback or suggestions on the roadmap, please email support@pickcode.io and we'd be happy to discuss them. The list above is not exhaustive and we will continue to work on existing and new requests. Suggestions that match the themes above are especially appreciated!

All improvements and fixes will be announced in our monthly newsletters.
