Palantir Technologies shares drop over 40% since November peak as AI darling faces valuation reality check

Palantir Technologies shares have dropped over 40% from their November 3, 2025 all-time high of $207.52, trading recently between $122 and $126, as the AI darling faces a valuation reality check amid rising interest rates and inflation. Despite strong operational performance, including over 70% year-over-year revenue growth and raised fiscal year 2026 guidance to roughly $7.2 billion, the stock touched a 52-week low of $106.37 in June 2026, nearly 49% below its peak. CEO Alex Karp's partnership with Nvidia and participation in the US State Department's Freedom Tech Excellence Program have not shielded the stock from multiple compression.

Strong revenue growth hasn't been enough to shield the data analytics giant from a brutal multiple compression that mirrors broader tech sector rotation.

Palantir Technologies, one of the most celebrated AI stocks of 2025, has given back more than 40% of its value since hitting an all-time high of $207.52 on November 3, 2025. The stock was recently trading in the $122 to $126 range, a level that would have seemed unthinkable during its euphoric run last fall.

The numbers tell two very different stories #

On the operational side, Palantir looks like a company firing on all cylinders. Year-over-year revenue growth has exceeded 70% in recent quarters. US commercial revenue, the segment Wall Street watches most closely, surged by more than 100% during certain periods.

The company raised its fiscal year 2026 guidance to roughly $7.2 billion or more.

But here’s where the math gets uncomfortable. At its November peak, Palantir was trading at more than 250 times forward earnings. The stock even touched a 52-week low of $106.37 in June 2026, a drop of nearly 49% from peak to trough.

Why strong fundamentals aren’t enough right now #

Rising interest rate considerations and persistent inflationary pressures have made investors recalculate the present value of future earnings. A dollar of profit five years from now is worth less today when discount rates are higher. That hits hardest for companies like Palantir whose valuations are built almost entirely on expectations of future growth.

CEO Alex Karp has continued to make headlines, and a partnership with Nvidia announced in July 2026 for secure AI offerings reinforced Palantir’s positioning in the enterprise AI space. The company also joined the US State Department’s Freedom Tech Excellence Program, further cementing its government credentials.

Palantir’s platform, Foundry, has been adopted across industries from healthcare to manufacturing. Palantir also operates a Foundry for Crypto platform and has historical associations with accepting Bitcoin payments, though these crypto-adjacent activities have played a negligible role in the stock’s recent trajectory.

What this means for investors watching from the sidelines #

At current levels, the valuation multiples remain elevated compared to the broader software sector, but they’re significantly more digestible than they were nine months ago.

The government contract business provides a floor that many pure-play software companies don’t have. Federal spending on AI and data analytics isn’t going away, regardless of which direction the economy moves.

The $106.37 low in June may or may not hold if macro conditions deteriorate further. With the stock still trading at premium multiples despite the 40%-plus haircut, there’s not exactly a massive margin of safety baked in.
