OpenAI is launching a new program Wednesday that will provide 100,000 academic researchers with free access to its advanced AI models through 2027, the company told Axios ahead of the announcement. By the numbers: Participants will get a year of access roughly equivalent to its $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro account, OpenAI said. Data won't be used to train models and researchers will receive business-grade privacy and security protections similar to those available to business customers, OpenAI said. The first 10,000 researchers will begin receiving access this summer at institutions including the Institute for Advanced Study and France's École normale supérieure, with the broader rollout continuing through 2027.
