Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still going strong in 2026 
Before the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, there was the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and it is still a very valid gaming processor in the current landscape, as you can pair it with the best GPUs on the market for exceptional gaming performance. However, there are some limitations with it. It can’t be overclocked, and since the 3D V-cache is on top of the core, this makes heat dissipation a challenge, hence a locked voltage, and that also holds back its multi-core performance.

To further explain what this means, it isn’t like that it is a complete dud in anything related to productivity, but compared to other processors from the older and newer generations, it can’t trade blows with them. RTX 5070 drives high FPS 1440p gaming and even 4K 
We have tested and reviewed three RTX 5070s in-house: the PNY RTX 5070 Slim OC, the ASUS TUF RTX 5070 OC, and the MSI Gaming Trio RTX 5070 OC. So, we are very well aware of what this GPU is capable of. You can run any game at 1440p high or ultra settings with it without any frame drops, and we even saw it pushing native 4K in some titles. However, when you add ray tracing to the equation, DLSS 4.5 and MFG become a requirement. Paired with the 7800X3D, you’ll get excellent 1% lows and a superb overall gaming experience.

The B850 motherboard gives this build a solid foundation 
The output of a gaming PC is highly dependent on the foundation, which is the motherboard. If you have a budget mobo and pair it with a flagship processor, it’ll hold back its performance, and you won’t get the output you paid for. However, this build has a B850 motherboard, which is the mid-range chipset from the 800-series and goes perfectly with the 7800X3D.
