Nvidia’s AI ambitions continue to grow at an incredible pace, and a new report suggests the company could be preparing another major investment in Europe. According to reports from Romania, Nvidia is evaluating a project worth around $4 billion to build a large AI-focused data center in the country. The report comes shortly after Nvidia announced an expansion in Korea.
Representatives from Nvidia reportedly visited Bucharest earlier this year to discuss potential opportunities with local partners and government officials. While nothing is officially confirmed, reports claim the company is particularly interested in the southern and southeastern regions of Romania, already known for strong renewable energy production and expanding infrastructure. If the project moves forward, it would become one of the country’s largest technology investments ever.

As AI adoption grows, companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta are racing to build additional infrastructure to meet growing demand. Every new AI model requires enormous amounts of computing power, and that demand has only increased throughout 2026.
While these projects can create jobs and attract investment, they have also become increasingly controversial. One major concern is energy consumption. Large AI data centers can consume as much electricity as small cities, putting additional pressure on power grids. Critics argue that the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure could strain energy resources and increase costs for other industries.
Despite the concerns, a $4 billion Nvidia project would represent a significant opportunity for Romania. Construction alone could create hundreds of jobs over several years, while local technology companies and infrastructure providers would likely benefit from the investment.
Reports also suggest Nvidia sees Romania as an emerging data center hub in Central and Eastern Europe. Earlier this year, Nvidia executive Rod Evans reportedly described the country as becoming a “data center powerhouse” for the region.
