NVIDIA CEO to meet with Sen. Cruz on AI

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is scheduled to meet with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) this week to discuss AI policy, including open-source AI model access and chip supply chain investments. Huang has publicly advocated for continued support of open-source AI models, while Cruz, as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, has introduced light-touch AI regulation and is considering legislation on catastrophic AI risks.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is among the lawmakers scheduled to meet with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang this week to discuss several artificial intelligence policy domains.

A source familiar with the meeting confirmed to Nextgov/FCW that Huang and Cruz are set to meet at some point over the course of this week.

An NVIDIA spokesperson told *Nextgov/FCW *in a statement on Tuesday that Huang will be discussing NVIDIA’s work “to strengthen the country’s chip supply chain by producing $500B in American technology over four years and American leadership in AI, including leading in open source.”

NVIDIA declined to comment on the length of Huang's time in D.C. and other meeting details.

Politico first reported Huang’s presence in D.C. this week. The chipmaker has been leading calls to continue supporting access to open-source AI models, launching a new security alliance on Monday with over 30 other companies dedicated to advancing open-source technologies for cybersecurity.

“Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty,” Huang said in a post on X last Friday. “The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.”

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Cruz has been a major player in Congress’s battle to craft and pass comprehensive AI legislation. He introduced the SANDBOX Act in September 2025, which is broadly characterized by a light-touch regulatory approach to AI writ large.

Last week, Politico also reported that Cruz was mulling over drafting legislation to address “catastrophic risk” caused by AI, following ChatGPT 5.6’s containment breach and subsequent attack on Hugging Face’s data infrastructure.
