AI as a Tool, Not a Threat #
Torvalds describes AI as an essential tool, akin to other technologies that developers rely on. He argues it's time to stop pretending AI isn't a valuable asset. 'Anybody who doubts that clearly hasn't actually used it,' Torvalds asserts. His position has evolved since October 2024 when he dismissed 90% of AI as marketing fluff. But even Linus can't ignore AI's utility forever.
In recent interactions, Torvalds conceded AI can be a 'somewhat painful tool,' especially when it uncovers embarrassing bugs. Yet, he argues the solution isn't to bury one's head in the sand.
