Legal technology startup Vikk AI revealed today that it has raised $4.2 million in new funding to expand its consumer artificial intelligence platform and to sell law firms sponsored placements inside AI-powered legal searches.

Founded in 2019, Vikk AI allows consumers to type legal questions and get answers in plain language. The platform also reads documents, drafts simple legal paperwork and flags lawyers who work on that kind of case.

Advertising is where the company sees the bigger opportunity. Through a product called Lawyer Ad Center, it sells firms placements matched to a user’s practice-area need and location. Vikk AI pitches the model as a replacement for the search and directory advertising that has long funneled clients to lawyers.

The wager tracks how fast consumers have taken to AI. Generative AI reached 53% adoption within three years, one of the quickest technology curves on record. Investors have chased it too. Funding for vertical AI startups, those aimed at a single industry, nearly tripled last year, to $3.5 billion.

“Consumers are fundamentally changing how they search for legal help,” said Walid Romaya, co-founder and chief executive of Vikk AI. “They’re no longer relying solely on search engines or online directories. They’re increasingly beginning with AI.”

Romaya has framed the wider goal as making legal information easier to get to while handing lawyers a channel he calls “transparent, relevant” and built around how people now hunt for answers.

Vikk AI is also preparing a Lawyer Directory and building Vikk Data Hub, an enterprise product that turns anonymized legal inquiry data into market intelligence. The company sees buyers among law firms, insurers and legal aid organizations that want an early read on where legal problems are surfacing.

That data work has drawn notice. Vikk AI was one of 30 companies picked from more than 1,000 applicants for the Amazon Web Services Inc. and Meta Build with Llama program. The award came with $200,000 in AWS credits.

The $4.2 million in funding came via a $700,000 pre-seed round and a $3.5 million seed. Investors included tax attorney Ronson Shamoun, injury attorney Joe Samo, health care executive Brad Jowell and Cooper Collins, managing member of MagnaSci Ventures.

Collins said the legal industry is still early in its move to AI and that Vikk is “building the infrastructure to help define what comes next.” Romaya and his team, he added, are not just applying AI to legal work but rethinking how consumers reach legal expertise in the first place.
