JetBrains Partners with the Rust Foundation for an AI Livestream Series

JetBrains and the Rust Foundation announced a joint AI livestream series hosted by JetBrains' Rust Developer Advocate Orhun Parmaksiz, starting Thursday, August 27 at 16:00 UTC. The first session features Stephen Korzeniewski, Lead Maintainer of Rig at 0xPlaygrounds, discussing building LLM applications in Rust. The series aims to showcase real-world Rust and AI use cases, including agents, tooling, and workflows.

A little over a month ago we saw this tweet from Vitaly, who is the Head of Rust Ecosystem at JetBrains. JetBrains is one of our members, developer of RustRover, their dedicated IDE for Rust development, and Vitaly is on the Rust Commercial Network (RCN) Steering Committee. He’s someone we respect for his commitment to Rust and the community, and he’s great to work with, so you can imagine we were a little surprised to see his post:

What happened next was truly awesome. Gracie, our Comms and Marketing Director, set up a call with Vitaly so we could dig a little deeper and to find out why he thought we were falling short on presenting Rust and AI to the community. After talking a bit about RustConf we dove deeper into how we could work together to present the Rusty part of AI to the community while being empathetic to the struggles open source projects are facing due to the strains put on maintainers dealing with an increase in pull requests etc.

Vitaly had an amazing idea that we are extremely excited to say is now becoming a reality. The Rust Ecosystem at JetBrains hosts regular livestreams that bring together the Rust community for meaningful discussions. We are happy to partner on a JetBrains and Rust Foundation AI livestream series, hosted by Orhun Parmaksiz, JetBrains’ Rust Developer Advocate and the maintainer of Ratatui.

Bookmark the link to the stream and be sure to join us on Thursday, August 27 at 16:00 UTC! This is our joint opportunity to talk about real world use cases, successes, failures, Rust building the infrastructure of AI and so on. You’ll hear many opinions, lots of voices pitching their projects, all with the hopes of bringing people to the table even if they leave with the sense of “agreeing to disagree” on AI’s value to Rust and vice-versa. This partnership is bringing the innovation for building AI tools and infrastructure in Rust to the forefront. It will serve as a platform for discussing how people are using Rust in AI contexts in real time and showcase our shared support for the multitudes of ways Rust is being adopted to build tools that aid in development. To quote our first session we want to showcase how “agents, tooling, and workflows come together in practice.”

Building AI applications in Rust

Rust is rapidly becoming a serious platform for building AI-powered systems, but what does shipping real LLM applications in Rust actually look like day to day? How do agents, tooling, and workflows come together in practice?

In this livestream, Rust Developer Advocate Orhun Parmaksız is joined by Stephen Korzeniewski, Lead Maintainer of Rig at 0xPlaygrounds, to explore how Rust and AI meet in real-world development. They’ll walk through how Rig fits into the Rust + AI ecosystem and how Stephen uses it to build modular, scalable and ergonomic LLM-powered applications in Rust.

If you’re interested in using Rust for AI, building agents, or understanding what modern Rust+LLM workflows look like in practice, this session offers a deep dive from the person leading one of the most active Rust AI frameworks. Speaker bio:

Stephen Korzeniewski is the Lead Maintainer of Rig at 0xPlaygrounds, building modular and scalable Rust tooling for LLM applications. A long-time Rust developer with a love for terminals, roguelikes, computational linguistics, and AI, he focuses on making agentic and LLM-driven workflows ergonomic and production-ready in Rust.

Be sure to join us on the 27th and stay tuned for our next session featuring Symposium, Rust Innovation Lab’s second accepted project. Symposium makes Rust dependencies actionable for AI agents. It discovers crate-matched plugins and wires in skills, hooks, and MCP servers so your agent can work with project-specific context.
