- Insta360 has launched the X6, its new flagship 360 camera with larger 1/1.1-inch sensors and 8K video at 50fps.
- The X6 adds native Dolby Vision, AI-powered zero-editing, and can also work as an action camera or gimbal camera.

Insta360 has launched the X6, its new flagship 360 camera and successor to last year’s Insta360 X5. The biggest upgrades are inside, with larger sensors, faster 8K recording, improved low-light performance, and a new AI system designed to take much of the editing work off your hands.
The X6 uses dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, giving it 33% more sensor area than the X5 and around four times the light intake per frame, according to Insta360. A triple-chip system handles image processing, while a new low-light mode and AdaptiveTone 2.0 aim to improve detail and dynamic range in difficult lighting.
Video capture now reaches 8K at 50fps in 360 mode, while flat video goes up to 5K60. The camera supports 10-bit I-Log and 14.5 stops of dynamic range. The X6 is also the first 360 camera with native Dolby Vision. Insta360 says it processes Dolby Vision metadata in-camera to adjust contrast and brightness frame by frame, with 10-bit color providing more than 1.07 billion recordable colors.
One camera, three jobs #
The X6 isn’t limited to 360-degree video. Insta360 has built it as a 3-in-1 device that can work as a 360 camera, a single-lens action camera, or a subject-tracking gimbal camera. The latter lets you pair the camera with the new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit to turn automatic subject tracking into gimbal-style framing.
InstaFrame 2.0 can automatically track people, pets, and objects to produce flat 4K footage, while keeping an 8K 360-degree recording as a backup. Switch to single-lens mode, and the X6 can shoot up to 5K60 or 4K120 for slow-motion footage.
AI can edit it for you #
The X6 introduces PanoMind, an AI model trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across more than 30 scenarios. Its AI Director can analyze footage on the camera and create a finished highlight video while the camera charges.
For those who want more control, Auto Edit 2.0 can automatically handle framing, cuts, camera movement, music, and transitions. Insta360 also offers Moments Pro, a cloud-based editor built with Google Gemini that can create videos based on prompts describing the subject, mood, style, and timeframe.
More battery, storage, and price #
Durability improvements make the X6 well-suited for harsh environments. It features a 2.32-inch 1200-nit OLED display, native waterproofing down to 66ft (20m) without a case, and 47GB of usable built-in storage. The redesigned Replaceable Lens 2.0 system purportedly offers five times better scratch resistance and costs 60% less to replace than the previous generation.
Powering the setup is a 2,600mAh Xtreme Battery providing up to 140 minutes of continuous 8K30fps recording — a 51% gain over the X5. A 30W fast charger brings the battery to 80% in just 24 minutes. For audio, a four-microphone omnidirectional array includes a specialized engine-noise filter for motorcycle riders.
The Insta360 X6 goes on sale in the US today, August 12, through the Insta360 Official Store, Amazon, and select retailers for $699.99 for the Standard Bundle and $799.99 for the Essentials Bundle, which adds an extra battery, selfie stick, Fast Charge Case, and extended warranty.
