Hyundai Steel is teaming up with construction management firm HanmiGlobal to expand the use of steel structures in data centers and other advanced industrial facilities.
The steelmaker said Tuesday that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding with HanmiGlobal at its Pangyo office in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
Under the agreement, the companies will jointly review the use of fire-resistant and high-strength structural steel from the design stage. They aim to offer customers optimized steel-frame designs for industrial facilities, combining Hyundai Steel’s product portfolio with HanmiGlobal’s construction and project management expertise.
Data centers have traditionally relied on concrete structures, including precast concrete. Steel frames, however, are gaining attention as an alternative that can shorten construction periods and improve cost efficiency.
Hyundai Steel and HanmiGlobal plan to promote wider adoption of steel structures in new data centers while offering integrated packages that draw on the steelmaker’s range of construction products.
“Through our collaboration with HanmiGlobal, we plan to strengthen our capabilities in steel products for advanced industrial facilities, including data centers, and create new demand for high-performance steel,” a Hyundai Steel official said.
The partnership forms part of Hyundai Steel’s push into the fast-growing data center supply chain. In March, the company launched a task force to expand sales in next-generation power infrastructure as the rapid growth of artificial intelligence drives demand for data centers.
