Reported compensation ranges from six-figure salaries to equity awards valued at more than $1 million (around Rs 9.57 crore).
How much do Microsoft AI and Cloud employees earn? #
Microsoft's AI and cloud businesses appear to offer some of the company's most lucrative compensation packages as the tech giant competes for skilled engineers and researchers. Employee-submitted data shows that compensation can vary significantly depending on the role and seniority. Microsoft is competing for talent with major players including Google, Meta, OpenAI and Anthropic, along with well-funded AI startups.

How much can Microsoft employees get in salary, bonuses and stocks? #
The figures show why base salary alone does not reflect total compensation at Microsoft, particularly for senior and specialised roles. In the Cloud + AI organisation, reported base salaries range from $111,000 (around Rs 1 crore) to $450,000 (around Rs 4.25 crore), while stock awards range from $9,000 (around Rs 8.5 lakh) to $1.4 million (around Rs 13.2 crore). Reported cash bonuses in the division can reach $300,000 (around Rs 2.83 crore).
How does Microsoft pay vary across teams and job levels? #
Compensation also differs considerably between Microsoft's business units and employee levels. Azure workers reported base salaries of up to $252,000 (around Rs 2.38 crore) and stock awards reaching $294,000 (around Rs 2.78 crore). In Microsoft AI, reported salaries went as high as $232,000 (around Rs 2.19 crore), while equity awards reached $140,000 (around Rs 1.32 crore). At the company level, reported base pay ranged from $111,000-$134,000 (around Rs 1-1.27 crore) at level 59, rising to $239,100-$280,000 (around Rs 2.26-2.65 crore) at level 67.
Are Microsoft stock awards and bonuses bigger than annual raises? #
The employee disclosures indicate that yearly raises can be relatively modest compared with bonuses and equity grants. For level 67 employees, reported annual salary increases ranged between 0.5% and 1%, while cash bonuses went as high as $110,000 (around Rs 1.04 crore) and stock awards reached $300,000 (around Rs 2.83 crore). However, these figures should not be treated as Microsoft's official compensation data, as the spreadsheet is based on voluntary and anonymous employee submissions and represents only a small fraction of the company's workforce. The disclosures come as Microsoft continues its AI investments while restructuring its workforce, including thousands of job cuts announced in July.
