Why it matters #
Synapse moves Hexnode from managing endpoints toward executing work across IT systems, a higher-value position that could deepen adoption of its UEM, identity and security suite.
Apu Pavithran, Hexnode's founder and CEO, used the company's HexCon26 conference on September 9th to introduce Hexnode Synapse, an orchestration layer that sends AI agents across endpoint, identity, security and business software to complete IT work. Hexnode followed with a Spanish-language release published September 16th, though Synapse remains a preview: Hexnode plans an invite-only trial later in 2026 and has yet to set a general-availability date.
The product is Pavithran's attempt to move Hexnode beyond the endpoint-management console he began building in 2013. In a 2021 interview, Pavithran traced Hexnode's origin to coffee meetings where a group of IT professionals discussed starting a business. He quit his job first; his friends followed over the next several months. The group settled on enterprise mobility as companies adopted cloud software and allowed more employee-owned devices into the workplace.
That first thesis centered on giving administrators one place to manage a mixed fleet. Synapse addresses the fragmentation left around that console. Employee onboarding still passes through HR, identity, application licensing, device provisioning, endpoint protection and ticketing systems. A security incident can require an analyst to inspect an alert, isolate a device, modify the user's access and document the response. Each handoff creates another place for an administrator to copy context, wait for approval or lose track of the work.
"If you look at the real work of IT, nothing ever happens inside just one system," Pavithran said at HexCon26, according to Hexnode's September 9th announcement.
Three agents, with humans kept in the loop
Synapse initially divides that work among three specialized agents. A device agent handles diagnostics, compliance drift, patching, vulnerability remediation and provisioning through Hexnode UEM. An identity agent handles access requests, role changes, account tasks and employee lifecycle operations through Hexnode IdP. A threat agent uses Hexnode XDR for alert triage, investigation and containment.
Hexnode says customers will also be able to configure agents around their own tools and internal knowledge sources. Initial external integrations include ServiceNow, Zendesk, Microsoft Entra ID and BambooHR. The Synapse product page also lists Slack, Microsoft Teams and Workday connectors, indicating that Hexnode wants the orchestrator to span both administrative systems and the channels where employees ask for help.
The demonstration case is employee onboarding. An administrator can enter a request such as "Onboard John," after which Synapse reads the employee's HR profile, creates an identity, assigns application licenses, configures the device, applies endpoint-protection policies and records a ticket. Hexnode says Synapse can when a license is unavailable, create a ticket and resume provisioning after a seat becomes free.
That example captures the commercial logic behind Synapse. Hexnode already sells the endpoint, identity and threat products that hold much of the context required to decide whether a user or device should receive access. Orchestration gives Pavithran a way to turn those products into a connected operating layer, while making the broader Hexnode suite harder to replace one module at a time.
Pavithran is placing governance at the center of the pitch because an agent that can wipe a laptop or revoke an account creates a different risk than a chatbot that drafts instructions. Administrators define the actions each agent can perform independently. Device wipes, endpoint isolation and privileged-access changes require approval from a named person, according to Hexnode. Synapse records triggers, decisions, approvals and executed actions in an Execution Center that administrators can review or export.
"Routine work can happen on its own. Anything consequential comes back to a person, and if the system is not sure, that comes back to a person too," Pavithran said in Hexnode's announcement.
Endpoint context is Hexnode's opening
Pavithran is entering a busy market. Tines introduced an AI interaction layer in January that connects agents, copilots and enterprise systems with approvals and audit logs. Security automation vendors including Torq and Swimlane are building agent-supported investigation and response products, while 2501.ai raised $9.3 million in March to expand autonomous infrastructure operations.
Hexnode's opening is the operational context already sitting inside its products. UEM provides device configuration, ownership, patch and compliance data. IdP adds identity and access information. XDR contributes threat alerts and response controls. Synapse can use that shared context before reaching into ticketing, HR and collaboration software.
The approach also changes what Hexnode is asking customers to buy. Hexnode's published UEM pricing starts at $2.20 per device each month for its Pro plan and reaches $4.70 for the Ultimate plan, with higher tiers priced by quote. Synapse pricing has not been attached to the preview. Hexnode will need to decide whether orchestration becomes a separate product, a suite-level feature or an incentive for customers to adopt UEM, XDR and IdP together.
Hexnode says it serves more than 13,000 customers across over 100 countries and manages millions of endpoints. Those figures remain company-reported, and the Synapse preview includes no customer deployments or independent measures of how often its agents complete workflows without intervention.
The invite-only trial will determine whether Pavithran's expansion works outside a staged onboarding request. Enterprise workflows contain expired credentials, conflicting policies, incomplete HR records and approval chains that vary by department. Synapse will earn its place when it can recover from those ordinary failures while leaving administrators with a clear record of what happened.
For Pavithran, the product extends a 13-year bet on simplifying the administrator's job. Hexnode began by gathering devices into one console. Synapse is the attempt to make that console coordinate the rest of IT.
