Google has confirmed that it has ended production of the Nest Mini and Nest Audio, its 5+ year old smart speakers, as the Google Home speaker is now replacing both devices.

The Nest Mini, launched in 2019, served as the entry point to Google Assistant as a smart home assistant. The always-listening puck offered a surprisingly good speaker, stereo pairs, and eventually added Gemini support, all for a device that cost just $35. Nest Audio, meanwhile, offered a larger form factor with improved audio quality for $100, having been released back in 2021.

While the latter was always expected to bite the dust in the wake of the $100 Google Home Speaker’s debut, the Nest Mini is also going away for good. Google, speaking to * TechAdvisor*, confirmed that production has ended on both devices.

As we continue to build the future of the smart home, we are refining our portfolio of Google Home and Nest devices. As part of this evolution, we have ended production of the Google Nest Mini and Google Nest Audio.

We remain deeply committed to our smart home ecosystem and to the millions of people who use our products every day. Existing Nest Mini and Nest Audio devices will continue to be fully supported with regular software updates, security patches, and customer care.

While support remains – Google is still actively supporting even its first-gen Google Home speaker launched in 2016 – hardware will dry up. And with the discontinuation of the Nest Mini, Google’s ecosystem is left without a cheaper entry point. The Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max also remain actively for sale, though there has been some evidence of a new “Google Home Display” in the works.

RIP Nest Mini and Nest Audio.

The Google Home Speaker is now available for pre-order and shipping next week.
