The flagship developer conference returns to Fort Mason Center in San Francisco with a theme that is not branding fluff: “All together now, in the agentic era.” That is GitHub making a public declaration — AI agents are no longer a beta experiment but a structural part of how software gets built. What “Agentic Era” Actually Means #
GitHub is not running a marketing campaign. The agentic era framing is backed by real numbers. Copilot now writes 46% of code in Copilot-enabled files, up from 27% in 2022. The autonomous coding agent has completed 60 million code reviews, with 71% surfacing actionable feedback. Ninety percent of Fortune 100 companies are running the Copilot coding agent in production — not in pilots, in production.
The more interesting shift is what those numbers imply for developers. When nearly half of the code in a file comes from an agent, the developer’s job is no longer primarily writing code. It is reviewing, directing, governing, and deciding when to merge. The session catalog is now live. Three sessions stand out for working developers:
Stop prompting, start delegating. This session covers configuring Copilot to own work rather than respond to individual prompts. The distinction matters: prompting is interactive and slow; delegation means setting parameters, authorizations, and constraints upfront so agents run without hand-holding.

MCP servers give agents the ability to take real action, and the authorization layer is still being built.
