Gemini Spark may be powerful, but users are sharing one major concern

Google's Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent, launched globally on August 1, 2026, for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers outside the US, but users on Reddit and X report major concerns about its reliability and safety, including an inability to create YouTube Music playlists and fears of unauthorized data deletion. The agent also briefly disappeared from accounts on August 2 before returning, raising questions about Google's rollout stability.

Gemini Spark is live, unless you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland, or Nigeria. And Google is keen that users make the most of its 24/7 personal AI agent. Signing up means being 18, in a non-excluded country, and having an active Google AI Ultra (sometimes Pro) subscription. And while there are potential benefits, users are already clear on the one major concern.

Gemini sparks? #

On the GeminiAI subreddit, Rare_Bunch4348 shared a post about the global launch of Spark, and the discussion quickly moved to the potential benefits and also potential issues. While one user asked “what kind of work is it used for”, another jokingly pointed to the OP’s included images and replied, “Look at his second image [below]. Apparently making 30 apps in one go lol”.

However, one user highlighted a sticking point they’d already come across. And considering Spark is intended to do this specific task, it seems odd: The user asked, “Can you create a YouTube Music playlist for me?” Spark replied, “I do not have direct access to create and save playlists directly in your YouTube or YouTube Music account”. To be clear, the ‘AI Playlist’ creation feature should certainly be available in Gemini Spark via the mobile app. Quite why it didn’t have access is unclear.

A major concern #

Still, the major concern in the discussion, beyond what the agent can and cannot (but should) do, is directly linked to Spark’s 24/7 availability and far-reaching access. One of the most upvoted responses on the post cynically reads: “You’ll wake up one day and find all your work deleted. When asked, it will tell you, “You’re absolutely right! I did delete all your work, and honestly? That’s on me.”

While that specific thread turns into a meme referencing the rock band The Talking Heads, (“And you may ask yourself, how did I get here?”), further responses highlight the same serious concern. One Redditor asks, “I have a Gmail account that I have had for almost 20 years now. Can it go through and automatically delete the 50+ spam emails that don’t go to my spam filter every day even though they have the textbook callsigns of spam emails?”

The top response to that question is, “ngl I wouldn’t trust AI with deleting anything knowing the reputation they have for wiping users’ systems. be wary”. And while the hope would be that safeguards have been put in place, it’s not unheard of for AI tools to do unexpected things. Hopefully, the mass deletion of anything user-owned isn’t possible, but the random disappearance of Spark itself seems to be.

Gemini Spark disappears #

According to users on X, on Sunday, August 2, only two days after its initial launch, Gemini Spark disappeared from users’ accounts without any warning. X user @DavidFiocchi posted, “I used Gemini Spark for 5 minutes, and Google already made it disappear from my app.” Another user, Ajay Singhadiya (@AjaySinghadiya8), also noted the disappearance, posting:

  • –>1 Aug 2026 around 3 AM IST Gemini Spark went globally available for all pro and ultra subscribers outside US..
  • –>After 24 hrs, 2 Aug 2026 3AM around they rolled it back and suddenly Gemini Spark got disappeared…
  • –> Now it’s back again…Don’t know what Google is doing

Whatever the reason for the disappearance, Spark is now back. We’ll be keeping an eye on how Spark does and whether or not it’s taken up by users keen to have a 24/7 AI agent working in the background. We’re also hoping it doesn’t mass-delete anything owned by the subscribers accessing the tool, and that it doesn’t once more randomly disappear and reappear anytime soon.
