ExxonMobil – the world’s largest non-state oil refiner – is “redesigning” its data processes “end-to-end” as it looks to “learn and act faster… and accelerate the adoption and value of AI,” said CEO Darren Woods.
The company has been public about its challenges with highly fragmented datasets and legacy applications. As one of its IT project managers, Rachel Birney, put it in a 2025 talk, ExxonMobil has long been running on sets of customised processes that have “been in place since the 90s.”
