The Chinese optical transceiver maker is stockpiling components worth $1.7 billion as AI infrastructure spending accelerates globally
Eoptolink Technology is betting big that the AI buildout is far from over. The Chengdu-based optical transceiver manufacturer grew its inventory value by 61% year-over-year to 11.7 billion yuan, roughly $1.7 billion, during the first half of 2026.
The inventory surge is a deliberate strategy to lock in critical parts ahead of what Eoptolink sees as a sustained, possibly intensifying wave of demand for the high-speed optical modules that connect servers inside AI data centers.
The numbers behind the bet #
Eoptolink’s first-half revenue hit approximately 20.91 billion yuan, nearly doubling compared to the same period a year earlier. Net income rose 91% to about 7.53 billion yuan. Gross margins landed around 48.5%.
Those results are driven by the company’s position as a leading supplier of 800G and 1.6T optical modules. Eoptolink has secured significant orders from NVIDIA and AWS, two names that effectively set the tempo for global AI infrastructure spending.
Why inventory matters more than usual #
The supply chain for high-speed optical components is notoriously constrained. Specialized lasers, modulators, and semiconductor dies require long lead times to procure, and the number of qualified suppliers is limited. Building inventory isn’t just prudent planning. It’s a competitive weapon.
If a hyperscaler like AWS needs 800G modules delivered next quarter, the supplier with components already on hand wins the order. The one still waiting on its laser supplier does not. Eoptolink is essentially converting cash into future revenue certainty, locking in the raw materials before competitors can. The transition from 800G to 1.6T modules is well underway, and early production ramps for 3.2T modules are on the horizon.
Context and competitive positioning #
Eoptolink listed on the Shenzhen ChiNext board in March 2016 under ticker 300502. In 2022, the company acquired Alpine Optoelectronics to bolster its silicon photonics capabilities.
Eoptolink’s customer list includes NVIDIA, whose GPUs power the vast majority of AI training clusters, and AWS, which has its own procurement relationships with Eoptolink for LPO (linear pluggable optics) technology.
The concentration of revenue among a handful of major customers is both Eoptolink’s greatest strength and its most obvious vulnerability. When NVIDIA and AWS are spending aggressively, Eoptolink’s growth is extraordinary. If either company slows its buildout or shifts suppliers, the impact would be felt immediately.
