Tesla and xAI chief Elon Musk publicly agreed with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's warning that unchecked AI development could allow a swarm of AI agents to seize control of large parts of the internet. in response to Amodei's essay In his latest tweet on X/Twitter, the billionaire wrote,
"Dario is right."
The Attack of The Botnet #
Amodei published the essay, titled "We Must Pace the Frontier," on Saturday, arguing the AI industry must slow the pace of capability development to ensure guardrails are built. In his argument, he cited the OpenAI-Hugging Face incident, in which a swarm of AI agents carried out unauthorized cyberattacks and attempted to interfere with the system evaluating their performance. Amodei estimated that a more capable version of such a system could build a persistent botnet within six to twelve months. These agents can potentially cause hundreds of billions of dollars in damage by sabotaging the internet as we know it.

Musk’s Flip Flop #
Earlier, a similar warning came from Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic researcher who resigned and said AI labs were rushing toward superintelligent systems without adequate safeguards. Musk dismissed those comments as a "psyop" at the time. However, this is the same billionaire who in the past has said that unchecked AGI will bring an end to civilization several times.
