The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS), which also provides financial and consumer advice to citizens, is advertising a vacant post as AI lead. The position comes with an annual salary of £95,000 and a remit to “act as the organisation’s senior AI specialist, setting technical direction, engineering standards and best practice for the design, development, deployment and operation of AI-enabled solutions”.
According to the job advert, key responsibilities of the role will include “setting direction on AI technologies, engineering approaches, standards and best practice” as well as an expectation to “support the adoption of AI across MaPS by helping teams identify opportunities, understand risks and implement AI solutions effectively”.
The successful applicant will also be asked to “provide technical oversight and assurance for AI initiatives” and to support AI rollouts by making an effort to “partner with colleagues… including software engineering, data and analytics, architecture, security, product, delivery and user-centred design teams to support successful AI implementation”.
Beyond the organisation, the new tech manager will be expected to “monitor developments in AI, evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve services, efficiency and customer outcomes”.
Applications for the post are open until 11.55pm on 31 August.
MaPS, which operates as a non-departmental public body under the oversight of the Department for Work and Pensions, was established in 2019 and, since shortly after its creation, has been responsible for overseeing the delivery of the delayed Pensions Dashboard Programme.

Beyond its remit in delivering this progamme, MaPS has a broader mission including the provision of advice and guidance for citizens on issues of money, debt, pensions, and consumer protection.
The AI lead job advert adds: “Working across technology, product, delivery, governance and business teams, the AI lead will ensure AI capabilities are developed safely, effectively and in line with organisational standards, while supporting the wider adoption of AI across MaPS.
