Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how people learn, work and solve problems. As generative AI tools become increasingly common in academic and professional settings, understanding how to use them responsibly is becoming an essential skill for everyone.
As part of our goal to become an AI-infused university, the University of Georgia has launched “AI Literacy for All” offered by the Digital Education Council, a new online training course in partnership with Enterprise Information Technology Services and the Office of the Vice President for Instruction.
The course is designed to provide UGA students, faculty and staff with a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the responsible use and implications of generative AI.
The training serves as a shared baseline resource, helping establish a consistent and informed understanding of AI across the university community.
Learning the fundamentals of AI
The AI Literacy for All course introduces participants to key concepts and considerations surrounding artificial intelligence. Through interactive learning activities, learners will explore how generative AI can be used across industries and education while gaining insight into responsible and ethical practices.
The training is delivered through the Digital Education Council’s online learning platform. Designed as a four-hour introductory experience, the course can be completed at an individual pace over multiple sessions, making it flexible for busy schedules.
Faculty and staff were granted access to the course on June 3 followed by student access on Aug. 10.
How to access the course
The course is available through the AI Hub under Resources and Tools, or by visiting the AI Literacy for All course link directly.
To access the training, participants should log in using their UGA email address (MyID@uga.edu) and password, following the same authentication process used for UGAMail and Microsoft 365. Users may also be prompted to verify their identity through UGA ArchPass (Duo).
After signing in, participants will be directed to the Digital Education Council platform, where the course content and supporting materials are hosted.
Additional resources and support
While participation in the training is highly encouraged, it is not required. Upon completion, participants will have the option to download a certificate of completion and may choose to add the credential to their LinkedIn profile as a microcredential.
Additional AI-related training materials, guidance and support resources are available through the AI Hub, providing opportunities for continued learning beyond the introductory course.
