China is accelerating the formation of the World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cooperation Organization, as announced during a Wednesday press briefing by China’s State Council Information Office, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing CGTN.
On July 26, 2025, the Chinese government proposed establishing a global AI cooperation organization.
It marks a major step by China toward practicing multilateralism and promoting a model of global governance that features extensive consultation and joint contributions for shared benefit.
This is a tangible step by the country in response to the Global South's call to close the digital and intelligent gap, promote inclusive AI development, and ensure the technology is used for positive purposes.
The proposed organization, tentatively headquartered in Shanghai, aims to serve as a platform for countries to strengthen cooperation on innovation, foster practical collaborations to fully realize AI's potential, and achieve common development and prosperity.
China plans to host the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai this July, aiming to foster international collaboration in artificial intelligence.
Previously, Qazinform News Agency reported that Kazakhstan allocated 177.1 billion tenge for the development of artificial intelligence and digitalization in 2026.
