Mayor Michelle Wu and Boston Public Schools (BPS) Superintendent Mary Skipper this month launched the inaugural BPS AI Educator Ambassadors — 25 secondary school teachers who completed a five-day Summer Institute in responsible and innovative AI practices. The cohort is a centerpiece of the BPS AI Literacy Initiative, a public-private effort seeded by a $1 million gift from entrepreneur Paul English, to make Boston the first major school district where every student graduates AI literate.
Leading the Summer Institute was Day of AI, the AI curriculum and professional development organization created at MIT in 2021 by faculty and researchers at
(Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education) headquartered at the
MIT RAISE. Day of AI has since become an independent nonprofit. MIT Media LabEach Ambassador leaves with a defined classroom project to pilot this year, with findings shared openly across the district by June.
