PsyLink: Controlling computers with nerve signals (2025) [video]

PsyLink, an open-source electrode armband that measures electrical signals on the skin and converts them into computer inputs, was presented in a 2025 talk covering how the device turns nerve impulses into keyboard inputs. The presentation walks through the electrical circuits, the embedded firmware, and the machine learning software that performs signal processing, including efforts to make the software cross-platform using Rust. The project is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license.

PsyLink is an open source electrode armband that measures electric signals on the skin and turns them into computer inputs.

The talk discusses why neural interfaces are an important but also tricky subject, and explains how PsyLink turns nerve impulses into keyboard inputs - from the electrical circuits, to the embedded firmware, to the machine learning software that does the signal processing (and about making the software cross-platform using Rust).
