The media company's new 'agentic detection' feature monitors over 1,000 assets across dozens of data sources, targeting institutional risk desks hungry for speed
In crypto, eight minutes might as well be eight hours. An exploit can drain a protocol, a bridge can , and a token can crater, all before a risk analyst finishes their first sip of coffee. Blockworks is betting that AI agents can close that gap almost entirely.
The company launched “Agentic Detection” on September 17, a new feature inside its Monitoring product that uses proprietary AI agents to fire off risk and activity alerts in roughly five seconds. The previous workflow, which relied on manual analytical review, took eight to ten minutes. That’s a reduction of about 99%.
What the system actually does #
The system pulls from X, Discord, Telegram, GitHub, governance forums, and more than 1,000 news sources. It covers over 1,000 assets organized into 55 subcategories, which gives it a fairly wide net for catching the kinds of events that make risk managers nervous: smart contract exploits, governance proposals, bridge s, and sudden shifts in project activity.
When an AI agent flags something, the alert gets tagged as “Agent-detected” until a human analyst verifies it. That dual-layer approach is a deliberate design choice. Speed without accuracy is just noise, and institutional clients, the primary audience here, tend to have low tolerance for false positives that trigger unnecessary portfolio adjustments.
The alerts plug directly into Slack, Telegram, email, webhooks, and APIs. For a risk desk at a crypto exchange or a bank’s digital asset division, that means the information shows up wherever they’re already working, no extra tab required.

The Messari acquisition as a foundation #
Blockworks, primarily known as a crypto media and events company, picked up Messari’s data and research infrastructure in June for a price tag north of $10 million. For context, Messari had carried a $192 million valuation following a Series A extension in April 2026. Acquiring it for a fraction of that valuation gave Blockworks an institutional-grade data layer at what looks like a steep discount.
Messari’s existing Monitoring product had already established itself with crypto exchanges, risk management desks, and token listing teams. Blockworks is now layering AI capabilities on top of that foundation rather than rebuilding it.
Why five seconds matters #
The crypto market operates around the clock with no circuit breakers, no trading halts, and no closing bell. When Euler Finance was exploited for nearly $200 million in 2023, the price impact was visible within minutes. When Multichain’s bridge froze that same year, tokens moved on secondary markets before most teams even knew what was happening.
For institutional players, the difference between a five-second alert and an eight-minute alert isn’t academic. It’s the difference between hedging a position and watching it unwind. Risk desks at exchanges need to know immediately if a listed asset’s underlying protocol has been compromised, because they may need to halt withdrawals or adjust collateral requirements. The “Agent-detected” labeling system positions Blockworks in an interesting middle ground in the broader AI reliability debate. Rather than asking users to trust AI outputs blindly or waiting for full human verification before sending alerts, the system ships fast with a transparency flag. Institutions get the speed advantage while knowing exactly which alerts have and haven’t been human-reviewed.
