Apple Creator Studio Updated With a Slew of AI Features, Along With a New Open JSON File Format for Keynote

Apple announced updates to Apple Creator Studio, including new AI features and support for Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), an open JSON-based bundle file format designed to be readable by external tools, developer workflows, and AI agents. Keynote, Pages, and Numbers gain beta AI assistants that understand document context plus Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for workflow automation, while Final Cut Pro for Mac adds built-in MotionVFX and Logic Pro for Mac adds a beta intelligent assistant and an enhanced Stem Splitter that now separates drums. Apple engineering manager for productivity apps Jesse Bunch said on X that "MCP allows you to bring your own agent if you want" and that the open source Keynote format comes with a Python library for creating Keynote documents programmatically on any platform; the updates arrive on the App Store this November as a free update for existing subscribers.

Apple Newsroom, with software news for Apple’s “Pro and Tell” week:

Apple today introduced transformative updates to Apple Creator Studio, the powerful collection of creative apps designed to put studio-grade tools into the hands of modern creators across Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Final Cut Pro for Mac now includes built-in MotionVFX — an expansive collection of visual effects, plug-ins, transitions, templates, and motion graphics tools — as well as seamless editing in Pixelmator Pro. Apple’s curated Content Hub now includes video assets and is available in Final Cut Pro. Music creators using Logic Pro for Mac gain a new intelligent assistant in beta, an enhanced Stem Splitter that now separates drums, and a redesigned Browser that incorporates all sounds, with music understanding and even a Splice library. Pixelmator Pro introduces Generate Fill, which lets creators transform selected areas of an image using natural language. Keynote, Pages, and Numbers introduce new AI features in beta, including assistants that understand document context and new Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for workflow automation. They also add stock video in the Content Hub and new premium themes and templates.

Apple Creator Studio updates will be available on the App Store this November as a free update for existing subscribers.

That’s a lot. But this part at the end caught my eye:

Across Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, the Content Hub expands to include Apple-curated stock video footage, giving creators dynamic visuals to enhance presentations, reports, and spreadsheets. Subscribers also gain access to a fresh collection of professionally designed templates and themes. Keynote introduces support for Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), an open JSON-based bundle file format designed to be readable and accessible to external tools, developer workflows, and AI agents.

Jesse Bunch, engineering manager for productivity apps at Apple, on X and LinkedIn:

Our new in-app assistants can help you get things done in record time. MCP allows you to bring your own agent if you want. And an open source format for Keynote (and Python library!) so you can create Keynote documents programmatically on any platform. Huge day for Creator Studio today.

Super proud of the team. Hope you love it!

I don’t think the Python library for the new Keynote Interchange Format is out yet, but neither are the updates to the Creator Studio apps. Very cool news, along the same lines as the new JSON-based format for Xcode projects that Apple announced last month.
