Zoom Meetings is arguably the most well-known video conferencing app in the world, but it's just one part of the larger Zoom Workplace platform. This comprehensive communication and productivity suite continues to innovate, with a sharp focus on AI tools, such as ZoomMate, a helpful AI agent that can perform tasks proactively on your behalf. We also like Zoom Workplace's capable free version, reasonable pricing, and impressive collection of video meeting features, from automatic transcripts and local recording to breakout rooms and in-meeting polls. We wish it delivered higher video quality in more situations, but Zoom Workplace is still an Editors’ Choice winner thanks to its affordable plans and class-leading capabilities. Webex by Cisco, another Editors' Choice winner, is also worth considering for large enterprises.

Pricing: A Viable Free Plan, With Affordable Subscriptions #

Zoom Workplace has multiple pricing tiers, including a free Basic plan. The free, single-user plan lets you host an unlimited number of video meetings of up to 40 minutes and with up to 100 participants, but the video quality tops out at 360p. This tier includes text chat features and the ability to record meetings to local storage. You also get a few uses of Zoom’s AI features (chatbot queries, notes, and summaries), access to Zoom’s Calendar and Mail apps, and the AI productivity suite of Canvas, Sheets, Slides, and Paper.

The Pro tier ($14.16 per user per month, billed annually) supports up to 99 users and lets you host meetings of up to 30 hours with up to 100 participants; the maximum video quality is 720p. The Business tier ($18.83 per user per month, billed annually) accommodates up to 250 users and meetings with up to 300 participants. The meeting length restriction remains at 30 hours, but the video quality goes up to 1080p. Both plans include 10GB of cloud storage. If you need more than 250 users, Zoom’s Enterprise tier (custom pricing) is your only option. It supports meetings with over 500 participants. All paid plans provide unlimited access to Zoom’s basic AI features, including AI chat during meetings, AI queries on the web, and automatic meeting summaries.

The aforementioned ZoomMate add-on agent ($20 extra per user per month) can automate workflows and create documents. Zoom has an AI credit system to meter access to agentic ZoomMate services, with the amount of credits an agent uses depending on the complexity of its actions. Zoom also sells other upgrades, including a Large Meeting add-on. You can pay up to $2,490 per user per month to increase the meeting capacity to 5,000 live meeting participants. Zoom has a Webinar add-on as well, with prices starting at $66.67 per user per month, billed annually for up to 300 attendees. Zoom’s VoIP service, Zoom Phone, is also an option.

Zoom Workplace is a good value for a full-featured video meeting and productivity suite, although the enterprise-focused Webex is slightly less expensive. Its paid plans start at $12 per user per month, billed annually. Google Workspace, which includes Google Meet, starts at $7 per user per month, billed annually. However, many Google Meet features (including 1080p video, breakout rooms, and waiting rooms) require the Standard tier ($14 per user per month, billed annually).

Interface and Ease of Use: Simple and Feature-Packed #

Zoom Workplace has dedicated apps for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows, as well as a web version that supports all popular web browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

Zoom Meetings is available everywhere Workplace is. Once you launch the Zoom Workplace desktop application and sign in, you’ll see buttons to create, join, and schedule meetings, along with a calendar view. Zoom lets you connect to a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 calendar, and the dedicated Zoom Calendar app is also available. The mobile app has a similar interface, just with the buttons at the bottom of the screen.

Zoom Meetings is easy to set up and use. You can quickly configure camera and microphone preferences when you start a meeting. The software automatically detects common problems, such as low speaker volume, and prompts you to fix them in a single click. You can invite people to your meetings even if they don’t have a Zoom account, and they can join from a web browser without creating one.

Zoom Workplace’s interface is both streamlined and powerful. The bottom bar packs lots of options for reactions and sharing your screen. Convenient tools for recording a meeting, splitting participants into breakout rooms, and viewing the meeting transcript are also accessible.

The top bar includes features such as My Notes, an AI assistant that can take notes on your behalf during meetings. My Notes is particularly compelling because it generates notes relevant to you, unlike the AI-powered meeting summaries offered by many platforms. (Zoom also has AI-powered meeting summaries and automatic transcripts.) Zoom’s AI chatbot uses the automatic transcripts to answer questions you have about a meeting while it's happening or afterward. You can also ask questions about past meetings through either the Zoom Workplace app or the Zoom AI chat website. The transcripts work well, and the chatbot is a convenient way to search through discussion points.

The platform's whiteboard feature works well. Like Zoom’s other tools, it’s very AI-centric, although the AI is technically optional. It lets you create sticky notes, draw, type text, and use charts. Zoom’s Whiteboard tool even lets you insert content from business tools, such as Asana and Jira. Just note that you must pay at least the Business tier to unlock unlimited concurrent whiteboards. The two more affordable plans limit you to just three, though you can pay for a separate subscription to add more functionality here.

Help: Comprehensive Online Resources #

Zoom has a comprehensive knowledge base, community-based resources, and a virtual agent for support. If you pay at least $10 per month, you get live chat support with humans. Live, phone-based support with humans is available only for accounts that spend at least $200 per month.

I found Zoom’s support resources comprehensive and easily searchable. The virtual agent on Zoom’s support site was able to answer support questions with troubleshooting information. You can’t get support from the Zoom AI assistant during a meeting, which would be convenient. When I asked the virtual assistant for a human representative via text chat, I reached someone in about 15 seconds.

Integrations: Extensive Support for Business Tools #

Zoom Workplace supports a broad range of integrations. It connects with both Google and Microsoft accounts to access mail and calendar events. Zoom also integrates with popular professional apps, including Figma, Jira, Salesforce, Slack, ServiceNow, and Zendesk. The platform's app marketplace includes over 3,500 apps and integrations. ZoomMate, the company’s agentic AI solution, has connectors for working with a variety of existing business solutions. Zoom also has MCP connectors, so you can access meeting insights from chatbots like Claude.

Performance and Quality: Smooth Video Streaming, But Often Only 360p #

I tested Zoom Workplace on an Android phone, an iPad, a MacBook, and a Windows 11 laptop. Zoom Meetings maintained reliable connections and smooth video quality. Anecdotally, I’ve used Zoom for many years, and I’ve consistently had a good experience, even in meetings with hundreds of participants.

The free Zoom Basic plan defaults to 360p video quality, but that's also true for paid Zoom plans in most situations. According to Zoom’s documentation, you must enable two settings to achieve HD video: an HD switch for webcams in the Zoom client and a Meeting-HD Video Quality setting in Zoom’s web portal. A Zoom representative told me the company recommends administrators enable this setting for their organizations, but it’s off by default and was difficult for me to find. 360p video is usable for video meetings, but the picture quality looks somewhat blurry on a high-resolution display, and it just feels underwhelming in 2026. Apple’s FaceTime streams at up to 1080p, while Google Meet can stream at up to 720p for free users, with 1080p available on paid plans.

Zoom’s documentation also says that Zoom limits you to 360p when using it in a window, and that 720p video requires a full-screen Zoom app at the time of testing. A Zoom representative told me the documentation is not accurate, and that Zoom may switch to 720p with a sufficiently large window. Zoom did use 720p in a suitably large window on my Windows 11 PC with a 4K monitor. However, Zoom often defaulted to 360p in situations I believe it shouldn't have, such as when a large, almost full-screen Zoom client was running on a 13-inch MacBook Air, which has a 2,560-by-1,664-pixel resolution. Zoom only switched to 720p in full-screen mode on this particular machine. Zoom Meeting's 720p video stream looked noticeably sharper than the 360p image in testing.

As mentioned, Zoom supports 1080p video quality with the Business, Education, or Enterprise plans. To activate this 1080p video, you must contact Zoom support and ask them to enable the 1080p option for your account. A Zoom support agent enabled it when I asked, and it looked sharper than 720p. However, this is unnecessarily complex.

Overall, Zoom’s approach to HD video streaming is disappointing. Paid Zoom users have to deal with 360p video in many situations unless they pay close attention to specific requirements for 720p or 1080p streaming, which is even more difficult to ensure. For the price, Zoom should offer a more consistent way to achieve HD video.

AI and Productivity Features: Workplace Tools Designed for AI #

Beyond the Meetings functionality, all Zoom Workplace plans offer calendar, chat, email, and task management features. It also has an AI agent system and an AI-first office productivity suite. I cover the most important tools below.

ZoomMate: Agentic AI

With the ZoomMate add-on, you can create AI agents that automatically take actions for you; these agents can also appear in Zoom’s Chat application alongside your human teammates. Whether ZoomMate is actually useful depends on how much business data you have in Zoom’s ecosystem and whether agentic AI features can make your work tasks more efficient. For example, I was able to ask ZoomMate to create a document with an action plan from a recent meeting. Zoom pulled a comprehensive amount of information from the transcript and organized it into a document.

Zoom Docs: AI-Focused Content Creation

Zoom Workplace's AI productivity suite consists of Canvas (collaboration), Sheets (spreadsheets), Slides (presentations), and Paper (documents) apps. They are available in the free Zoom Basic plan, but AI-powered creation requires a ZoomMate subscription. The tools are very AI-centric, and Zoom pitches them as a way to turn your meeting insights into documents and presentations. Zoom’s content creation tools feel like more minimal alternatives to Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 applications. Their strength is their integration with Zoom’s AI and meeting tools.

Zoom Calendar and Mail: Traditional Productivity Tools

As mentioned, Zoom’s Calendar and Mail features let you connect a Google or Microsoft 365 account to see existing calendar events and emails in the Zoom desktop application. Once you do, Zoom's AI features can work with their data. You can also create a new email address using Zoom’s own domain, although this feature isn’t available on free plans. I appreciate that Zoom Mail has automatic end-to-end encryption for messages sent between two Zoom-hosted email services, which ensures the company can't see the content.

Zoom Chat: Text-Based Team Chat

Zoom Chat is a team-based chat component that works like a streamlined version of Microsoft Teams and Slack. It’s available everywhere you can use Zoom Workplace, and it might be sufficient for small teams or organizations that aren’t already using other tools. Zoom Chat has channels, direct messages, mentions, reactions, threads, and other standard features.

Zoom Hub: A Central Location for Documents and Files

Zoom Hub is a file storage and sharing tool. Paid Zoom Business and Pro plans get 10GB of cloud storage per user, while Enterprise plans get unlimited storage. Zoom Hub lets you upload and share files as well as view meeting recordings and transcripts. Documents you create also appear here.

Security: Is Zoom Workplace Safe to Use? #

Zoom says it uses industry-standard encryption for meetings, ensuring that no one can eavesdrop on you. You can lock meetings to prevent new people from joining, restrict meetings to invited participants only, set meeting passwords, and use a waiting room to approve new participants. It supports multi-factor authentication to secure accounts, and I received email security codes whenever I signed into my Zoom account on a new device. For sensitive meetings, Zoom has optional end-to-end encryption, which prevents even Zoom employees from seeing the contents of a meeting. The trade-off is that enabling this turns off AI features, cloud recording, and other features. Zoom advertises post-quantum end-to-end encryption to protect data from future quantum computers that could crack traditional encryption methods.
