There’s a specific mood in .NET teams right now. Standups are quieter. LinkedIn profiles are getting quietly updated. Everyone has a friend who just left, and everyone is wondering if they should too.
Fine. Leave. But understand what you’re walking into first, because the market you’re entering is not the one you last interviewed in, and the prep material you’re about to buy was written for the old one.
Start with the number nobody puts in their “top 50 .NET interview questions” listicle: Indeed Hiring Lab indexed tech job listings against a February 2020 baseline of 100. As of their analysis, machine learning engineer postings sit at 159. All tech listings: 64. General software engineer openings: 51. .NET developer roles specifically — along with Java, Android, iOS, and web — fell more than 60% from that baseline.
Read that as two markets, because that’s what it is. “C# developer who builds APIs” is a shrinking market with more candidates per opening…
