The Israeli chipmaker's massive funding round signals that investors see programmable networking as the backbone of AI infrastructure, with implications rippling across tech and crypto markets alike.
An Israeli semiconductor company most people have never heard of just pulled in over $300 million in fresh funding. Xsight Labs, a fabless chipmaker building networking silicon for AI data centers, closed the round at a valuation between $2.5 billion and $2.8 billion post-money.
The bet behind the check is straightforward: investors believe AI data center networking will balloon into a $150 billion market by 2028. And Xsight’s chips, which prioritize power efficiency and programmability, are positioned to capture a meaningful slice of that growth.
Who’s writing the checks and why #
Fidelity Investments and Atreides Management led the round, with serial entrepreneur Avigdor Willenz also contributing. Willenz has been instrumental in Xsight’s founding and development.
Xsight was valued at roughly $500 million during its 2021 funding round. That means the company’s implied worth has grown roughly 5x in the intervening years, even after navigating management transitions and layoffs that could have derailed the operation entirely.
The tech under the hood #
Xsight builds two main product lines: X-series switch chips and E-series DPUs, both designed specifically for AI data center connectivity. The company’s calling card is power efficiency, with its chips consuming under 200 watts for a 12.8 terabit-per-second switch.
The company also emphasizes customer-driven software extensions, making its chips programmable rather than fixed-function.
One of Xsight’s most notable customer wins underscores just how versatile the technology is. The company has secured a contract to supply network chips for Starlink’s next-generation V3 satellites, a use case that demands extreme reliability and efficiency.
Why crypto and digital asset investors should care #
Xsight itself has reportedly shifted focus away from cryptocurrency applications. The $150 billion market projection for AI data center networking by 2028 provides a useful benchmark: a single subsector of AI infrastructure, just the networking piece, is projected to represent roughly 5% of crypto’s total market cap of approximately $3 trillion within two years.
Broadcom and Marvell already dominate large portions of the data center networking market. Xsight’s pitch — lower power consumption and competitive cost per token processed compared to industry alternatives — will need to hold up against incumbents with deeper customer relationships and broader product portfolios.
