# Xpeng raises $900M at $6.3B valuation to scale humanoid robot production

Chinese EV maker's robotics subsidiary pulls in backing from IDG Capital, Gaorong Ventures, Tencent, and Alibaba for its IRON humanoid robot

XPeng Robotics, the robotics arm of Chinese electric vehicle giant XPeng Inc., just closed its first major funding round at over $900 million. The post-money valuation lands north of $6.3 billion, making it one of the largest single raises in the humanoid robotics space to date.

IDG Capital and Gaorong Ventures co-led the round, with Tencent and Alibaba jumping in as strategic investors.

## What XPeng is building

The capital is headed toward three pillars: artificial intelligence development, hardware engineering, and manufacturing scale-up. All of it feeds into XPeng’s flagship humanoid, the IRON robot, which debuted during the company’s AI Day in November 2025.

IRON stands about 1.72 meters tall and weighs 70 kilograms. The robot is built with a high number of degrees of freedom, meaning its joints and limbs can move in ways that approximate human motion rather than the stiff, clunky movements of earlier industrial robots.

XPeng is targeting large-scale mass production of its humanoids by the end of 2026. XPeng has outlined plans to invest up to 100 billion yuan, roughly $13.8 billion, into humanoid robotics technology over time.

## From quadrupeds to humanoids

This isn’t XPeng’s first foray into robotics. The company raised over $100 million in a Series A back in July 2022, though that earlier effort focused on quadruped robots. The pivot to bipedal humanoids represents a significant escalation in both ambition and complexity.

CEO He Xiaopeng has personally taken over management of the robotics division since mid-2026.

## A crowded but enormous market

XPeng is entering a field that’s getting increasingly competitive. Tesla has been developing its Optimus humanoid robot. Figure AI raised billions in venture capital. Chinese rivals like Unitree Robotics and Fourier Intelligence are also pushing forward with their own designs.

The backing from Tencent and Alibaba adds a dimension beyond just capital. Both companies operate massive ecosystems spanning cloud computing, logistics, retail, and enterprise services. Those ecosystems represent potential deployment environments for humanoid robots, from warehouse operations to customer service to last-mile delivery.

## What to watch next

The end-of-2026 mass production target is the milestone that matters most. If XPeng hits that target, it would make the company one of the first to achieve volume production of humanoid robots anywhere in the world.
