Wonder founder and CEO Marc Lore is cooking up a lot of intrigue in the food business.
Lore said Wonder will soon allow people to create their own restaurant using the company's technology and make their own sauces via artificial intelligence. Drone food delivery in Texas, the barbecue capital of the US, begins later this year too.
This all comes as Lore eyes a possible Wonder initial public offering (IPO) within the next year.
"I think it's a massive opportunity [for people to build their own restaurant]," Lore said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid (video above). "I think there is obviously the influencers using their followers to build restaurants and create demand. You, as a creator, can make like a 10% profit margin. So it's really good. You don't have to put up any money."
Just a week ago, Lore and Wonder announced a $650 million Series D round at a pre-money valuation of $9 billion.
It was February 2023 when yours truly last sat down with Lore to chat about a company he had founded. We were sitting at a new Wonder location in New York City, talking over some items from the Wonder menu. Lore told me about his new vision for a company that began by delivering chef-inspired food on food trucks.
I remember coming away from the conversation thinking the former Walmart US e-commerce chief and Jet.com founder was on to something.
Since that 2023 chat, Wonder has crossed these milestones:
In September 2023, Wonder acquired Blue Apron for $103 million.
In March 2024, Wonder raised $700 million, giving the business a $1.5 billion valuation.
In November 2024, Wonder bought Grubhub for $650 million.
In November 2025, Wonder bought Spyce Robotics from Sweetgreen for $186 million, gaining its infinite makeline kitchen technology.
On Wonder's IPO plans, Lore said, "I mean, we'll be ready to go next year. That's definitely the plan. But you know, we're just excited and heads down building the business. The quality of the food continues to get better."
