Wistron has opened its first U.S. manufacturing plant, a 324,000-square-foot facility in Fort Worth, Texas, that assembles and tests advanced Nvidia AI systems. Production began with the GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip, while a second manufacturing cell is being prepared for Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin platform.[1][2]
The companies opened the D1 plant on July 21, two days before Nvidia published its account of the ceremony. Nvidia said the facility is scaling toward production of tens of thousands of boards per month during 2026. Wistron is a contract manufacturer and Nvidia partner; the Texas factory is not an Nvidia-owned semiconductor fabrication plant.[1]
Jobs and public incentives #
Wistron described D1 as a $700 million facility. Fort Worth’s underlying incentive documents use different accounting boundaries: they require at least $80 million in real-property work and $411 million in taxable equipment at the 324,000-square-foot site, plus another $196 million at a separate 767,000-square-foot Wistron facility nearby.[2][3]
Nvidia said D1 has created more than 500 jobs and that Wistron plans to expand its Texas workforce to 1,000 by the end of 2026. The city agreement requires at least 634 full-time jobs at D1 and 254 at the second site, with an average salary of at least $63,000.[1][3]
If Wistron completes both projects and meets its investment and employment requirements, Fort Worth can abate as much as 80% of incremental city property taxes at D1 and 60% at the second site for 10 years. City officials estimated the package would forgo about $30.8 million while generating $10.6 million in net new city property-tax revenue. Denton County separately approved incentives capped at a combined $5 million over eight years.[3][4]
