The new machines are already available for preorder directly from Apple, with shipping for most configurations starting on September 22nd, 2026. The Mac Mini starts at $899, $300 more than the [M4-equipped base model](/24289730/apple-mac-mini-m4-review) from 2024, and the Mac Studio starts at $2,499, the same price as the current M4 Max model. The announcement comes [just a few weeks ahead](/tech/983648/more-about-apples-fall-iphone-launch-plans) of Apple’s usual timing for an annual iPhone event. The upgraded macOS computers focus on AI performance and improved connectivity, with Apple making a variety of claims about performance gains compared to the previous models. The previous generation Mac Mini only featured the M4 and M4 Max chips, so this represents a big upgrade for Apple’s most compact desktop. Aside from the processor upgrades, the new Mini has improved connectivity, notably sporting 2.5Gb Ethernet as a baseline, as well as Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7. ## How to preorder the Mac Studio The updated Mac Studio with the M5 Max chip (plus 36GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage) starts at $2,499 at [Apple](https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/mac-studio), while the M5 Ultra version with 96GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD starts at $5,499. While the base models will start shipping on September 22nd, the configurations with a whopping 512GB of RAM (price not yet announced) won’t be available until late October.
